| This course is for Initial String Training for all Managers, PIs, ASIs, ORAs, ASTs and others who are members of Certificate Management Teams (CMT) having oversight responsibilities for 14CFR Part Certificate Holders, and non-Certificate holders currently active in the NAS. This training provides the CMT personnel with job-competency knowledge of system safety and risk-based decision-making techniques for managing safety. It shows the importance of both as they relate to certificate management. This course introduces ICAO State Safety Program (SSP) concepts, includes basic FAA/ICAO principles, components and function of a Safety Management System (SMS). These principles are how the FAA and industry implements, and deploys their management of safety.This process facilitates implementation plan approval and oversight of a service providers safety management system and practices associated with a formal or informal management of safety. This training provides CMT personnel with system safety techniques to apply SMS application and SAS automation as it relates to data collection and RBDM. Training will focus on instilling information and reinforcing the concepts and skills taught through distance learning techniques. Academy training further refines the ability of CMT members to implement a systems approach, using risk-based decision-making during oversight of safety management. The SMS builds a foundational Safety Management understanding and provides CMTs with the knowledge of SMS concepts used in the validation and acceptance of a certificate holders Safety Management System.
