FAA27100316 Active
(27100316) Flight Standards Service Chemical Safety Training
COURSE 2020-06-01
Chemicals present an unusual set of safety concerns and requirements. Chemicals can be unpredictable, are not always in a fixed location and, in some cases, can be incompatible with other chemicals in the immediate work environment. The Flight Standards Service Chemical Safety training provides various examples and scenarios to familiarize personnel with potential chemical exposures at external workplaces and accident investigation sites. This training also familiarizes personnel with how to assess and mitigate the exposure; and how to determine and select personal protection. This Occupational Safety and Health training provides fundamental support to activities across multiple CFRs and multiple job disciplines. This course is mandatory for all Flight Standards Service employees who investigate aircraft accidents and/or work at external industry workplaces, which includes maintenance; repair; overhaul facilities; aircraft manufacturing; supplier; plating shops; agricultural operators, and other sites where chemical exposure is a potential. This training has been adopted by Aircraft Certification Service (AIR) and although maintenance, repair, overhaul (MRO) facilities are referenced, the potential chemical hazards discussed apply to aircraft manufacturing facilities and suppliers. This includes: a. Aviation Safety Inspectors and Aerospace Engineers who investigate aircraft accidents and/or work at external industry workplaces, which includes maintenance; repair; overhaul facilities; aircraft manufacturing; suppliers; agricultural operators, and other external workplaces. b. Supervisory Aviation Safety Inspectors and Aerospace Engineers that have ASIs and ASEs, respectively, reporting to them that perform work described above. c. Aviation Safety Technicians or Aviation Safety Assistants who assist with activities described above. d. Flight Standards Occupational Safety and Health Team and collateral duty OSH Points of Contact (POCs).
