This is a 112-hour self-paced Blackboard training course. This course is for specialists, engineers, and technical support personnel. The purpose of this course is to provide training on Antennas &Transmission Lines theory and fundamentals with a focus on application to navigation and landing systems. The fundamental equations behind these concepts will be introduced and applied in practice problems so students may gain a working familiarity with these equations and associated job-related mathematical manipulations. Since this will be a concept course, the objective is to transfer job-essential knowledge to students as opposed to training for performing a particular skill. Subjects include: Transmission Line Theory, Standing Wave Patterns, Transmission Line Impedance, Transmission Lines with Loss, Quarter Wavelength Transformers, Single-Stub Impedence Matching, Balance-to-Unbalance Transformations, Transmission Line Bridges, Isotropic and Practical Antennas, Electromagnetic Waves, Radiation Patterns, Antenna Current, Radiation from Two Antennas, Antenna Pairs with Equal Current, Effect of Changing Antenna Phase, Locating Critical Points, Unequal Antenna Currents, Specific In-Phase (SIP) Antenna Pairs, Specifically Oppositely-Phased (SOP) Antenna Pairs, and Multi-Element Antenna Arrays. The course is math intensive involving algebra, geometry, and trigonometry (electronics theory mathematics). Knowledge of basic electrical and electronics theory and components is expected. All students will be required to use a scientific calculator throughout the course; a TI-36X or Casio FX-115ES Plus is recommended. Tutor.com has been contracted to provide tutoring services for students needing help with this course.
