This course provides the theory of operations training for the National Airspace Data Interchange Network (NADIN) Message Switching Network (MSN) system. Total length of course is 40 hours; broken into 23 hours for theory of operations and 17 hours of hands-on laboratory. The training topics includes; International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) requirements, NADIN system progression including NADIN I, NADIN II Packet Switched Network (PSN), and NADIN Message Rehost (NMR), NADIN MSN system (including hardware, software, system characteristics and information flow), NADIN MSN Users, communications protocols, NAS Enterprise Security Gateway (ESG), critical NADIN users and their impact upon operations, identification of the types, structure, priority, and ICAO addressing requirements for NADIN messages, information flow of a message through the NADIN MSN system, specialist operational responsibilities, using NADIN system documentation, operating the NADIN workstation (including start-up and entering system commands), daily operational tasks, basic troubleshooting, and identification of the routine and/or periodic NADIN maintenance tasks. Hands-on laboratory subjects include; operating the NADIN MSN Database, system documentation, workstation configuration, entering system commands, NADIN start-up/shut-down, message retrieval, alternate routing, planned/unplanned take-overs, switch modes, troubleshooting, and shift briefing procedures.
