DESCRIPTION

This 38-day course provides training for technicians and engineers on the Wilcox Mark 1F ILS System, including Localizer, Glideslope, Markers and remote receiver. The course is 65% correspondence study, 5% computer-based instruction (CBI), and 30% Academy laboratory. Correspondence study and CBI subjects include block diagrams and circuit diagrams for all units and circuit cards. Laboratory subjects include alignment and calibration of Localizer, Glideslope, Markers, and remote receiver to current standards. This course includes an Academy LAB Examination.

OBJECTIVES

Using the Manufacturer’s Instruction Books and CBI Student learning materials, the student will:
  • Learn the electronic theory of operation of every circuit card in the Localizer, Glideslope, Markers and remote receiver systems.
  • Learn the RF and signal wiring paths of each system, including the localizer, Glideslope, and marker antenna arrays.
  • Learn the power and phase distribution in the antenna arrays.
  • Learn the various adjustment controls of each system.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the theory of each system’s circuitry by taking open book graded exams.
  • Learn the alignment and calibration procedures for each system.
  • Learn the use of the Portable ILS Receiver (PIR) in measuring the Localizer and Glideslope alignment signals.
  • Learn how to set up the monitor alarms to FAA standards and tolerances.
  • Learn how to set up the Localizer and Glideslope systems for Flight Inspection.

Technicians and engineers responsible for maintaining, calibrating, or inspecting Wilcox Mark 1f Instrument Landing Systems.
