1 day workshop for Asbestos Operations and Maintenance Workers Train the Trainer. Participants will train on and must be able to instruct students in: History of asbestos; Types of asbestos commonly found in FAA buildings; Definition of friable and non-friable; Analytical methods used for sample analysis to identify ACM and presumed asbestos containing materials (PACM); How asbestos enters the body; Health effects and diseases associated with exposure to asbestos; The relationship between smoking and asbestos in producing lung cancer and contact information for smoking cessation programs; Asbestos airborne exposure limits and requirements of the medical surveillance program; Types of equipment used for air sampling; Types of sampling media required; Sampling parameters and required protocols; Analytical methods for air sample analysis; Various regulations that apply when building materials containing asbestos are impacted including OSHA, EPA, DOT and FAA requirements; Minimum work practices and engineering controls when asbestos containing materials are impacted; State/Local Specific Notification Limits; Proper methods of handling ACM and PACM, including labeling and waste disposal procedures; Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use and handling required of FAA personnel who impact ACM; Overview of respirator purpose, use, care, limitations, and fit-testing (Respiratory Protection Training is not covered in this course); Nature of operations that could result in exposure to asbestos and proper asbestos-related work practices to protect FAA employees, contractors, and visitors; The recognized four control options for identified ACM; Asbestos Work Control System; Work Request Review including access, creation, and approval; Purpose of site-specific Asbestos O&M Plans; The national standard operating procedures (SOPs) that must be followed for the purposeful disturbance of ACM on O&M tasks.
